Catfish Hair Rigs

Our catfish hair rigs are available in two breaking strains of 'Kryston Quicksilver', 25lb and 45lb.  If your fishing a water for carp but there's a possability of a cat taking your bait, the size 6, 25lb rig offers a real halfway house option.  In this breaking strain the braid is fine enough that carp are still likely to pick up your boilie or pellet bait offering, yet being 'Quicksilver' it has the 'Kevlar' construction that means that should you hook a catfish you should still manage to bank it as long as you can play it out in reasonable time.  Catfish are often lost in long fights as their bony palates rub against the braid during the fight where it enters their mouths and in time weakens it.  Standard carp braids can be worn through very quickly and this is where the reinforced braids, such as 'Quicksilver' excel.

If your fishing only for catfish we recommend the 45lb options as they are that bit stronger.  Also, unlike carp, catfish aren't put off by thick braids, however they are very susceptible to resistance.  For this reason we recommend using open bail arm methods when fishing for them using freelining or running lead techniques as opposed to using a bait runner system.  Bait runners are fine for fishing semi fixed rigs as with them you require some resistance in order that the pricked fish, remains so until you get to the rod and set the hook.
